Multiple value fields

Drag each field you want into the Values area; each becomes its own column, such as Sum of Units and Sum of Revenue. A Σ Values item appears in Columns; move it to Rows if you want the value fields stacked under each row label instead of side by side.

Syntax

Rows: Region. Values: Sum of Units, Sum of Revenue (Σ Values in Columns)
PartWhat it is
Σ ValuesPlaceholder created when there are two or more Values fields; its position controls the layout
Value Field SettingsChange the function and the custom name of each value field

Examples

Rows: Region
Values: Sum of Units, Sum of Revenue

Result: Three columns: Region, Sum of Units, Sum of Revenue, plus totals.

Rows: Region
Values: Count of Order ID, Sum of Revenue, Average of Revenue

Result: Order count, total and average per order for each region in one table.

Move Σ Values from Columns to Rows

Result: Each region shows two rows beneath it, one for units and one for revenue, instead of two columns.

Common mistakes

  • Values are stacked when you wanted columns: Σ Values is in Rows; drag it back to Columns.
  • The column headers read Sum of Revenue2: rename them in Value Field Settings, Custom Name (a name cannot exactly match the source field name, so use Revenue with a trailing space or Total Revenue).
  • Adding a Columns field multiplies the value columns: each column item gets every value field, so keep Columns fields small.

Questions

How do I add two values to a pivot table?

Drag both fields into the Values area. They appear as separate columns automatically.

Can I show the same field twice?

Yes. Drag it into Values again and change the second copy's function or Show Values As setting.

How do I rename Sum of Revenue?

Click the header cell and type a new name, or use Value Field Settings, Custom Name. The name must differ from the source column name.
